Certificate in Business Studies

The Certificate in Business Studies is the accessible starting point of PABM Campus's general Business pathway, open to school leavers, working adults, and entrepreneurs alike — no prior background in business is required. The programme introduces core business principles, covering the basics of management, finance, marketing, and human resources, building a practical working vocabulary used across all types of organisations.

Learners are introduced to the fundamentals of business planning, basic financial literacy, workplace communication, and the business environment, through hands-on, case-based exercises drawn from small enterprises, retail, and service settings relevant to the Sri Lankan business environment. The programme also covers an introduction to entrepreneurship and everyday business decision-making, giving learners a solid, practical grounding they can apply immediately in their own workplace or business.

Designed to be genuinely accessible, the programme welcomes applicants regardless of formal educational background, including business owners and self-employed individuals who bring practical experience rather than paper qualifications. On successful completion, learners are equipped for entry-level business support or administrative roles, and are eligible to progress directly into the Diploma in Business Studies.

Entry Direct — Eligible via any ONE of:

• A/L (any stream), minimum 2 passes
• O/L, 6 passes incl. Maths & English + relevant work experience
• No formal qualification, min. 2 years' relevant work/business experience (subject to Advisory Committee review)
  Entrepreneurs/business owners with general business, administrative, or supervisory experience
• Recognised Certificate in Business Studies, Business Management, or related field, from another institution
  Other equivalent qualification (Advisory Committee approval)

Entry RPL

• For applicants who started a similar certificate-level programme in Business Studies or a related field elsewhere but didn't finish. On submitting transcripts and syllabi, the Advisory Committee assesses prior learning and decides the entry point plus any remaining course units required.
