Diploma in Quality Management

The Diploma in Quality Management builds on foundational knowledge to develop applied, organisation-level competency in managing quality across functions. The programme deepens learners’ understanding of Quality Management Systems (QMS), including an introduction to ISO 9001 principles and documentation practices, and develops practical skills in quality planning, quality control, and quality assurance at the departmental and organisational level.

Learners engage with statistical process control, root cause analysis, and structured problem-solving methodologies such as PDCA (Plan-Do-Check-Act) and 8D, applying these tools to realistic organisational scenarios. The programme also introduces the soft side of quality management — supplier quality relationships, internal auditing basics, and the role of leadership and employee engagement in sustaining a quality culture — reflecting the balance between the hard side (systems, tools, data) and soft side (people, culture, leadership) of quality management practice.

Case studies are drawn from manufacturing, healthcare, hospitality, and service-sector organisations, giving learners exposure to how quality principles apply across diverse industries relevant to the Sri Lankan economy. On successful completion, graduates are equipped for roles such as Quality Executive, Quality Assurance Officer, or Process Improvement Coordinator, and are eligible to progress directly into the Higher Diploma in Total Quality Management and Business Excellence.

Entry Direct

Applicants who satisfy any ONE of the following are eligible for direct entry, without requiring the Certificate:

•       G.C.E. Advanced Level (any stream) with a minimum of two passes.

•       G.C.E. Ordinary Level with six passes including Mathematics and English, together with relevant work experience.

•       No formal educational qualification, provided the applicant has a minimum of two years of relevant work or business experience, subject to review by the PABM Advisory Committee.

•       Entrepreneurs, business owners, or self-employed individuals with practical experience in a quality-related, operational, or supervisory capacity.

•       A recognised Certificate in Quality Management, Business Management, Engineering, or a related discipline from another institution.

•       Any other qualification deemed equivalent by the PABM Campus Academic/Advisory Committee.

Entry Completion

Students who have successfully completed the Certificate in Quality Management Fundamentals at PABM Campus, with the required minimum pass grade, are eligible for direct progression into the Diploma in Quality Management without further entrance assessment.

Entry RPL

Applicants who have previously commenced a diploma-level or equivalent programme in Quality Management, TQM, Business Management, or a closely related discipline at another recognised institution, but did not complete it, may apply through Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL). On submission of academic transcripts, course syllabi, and supporting documentation, the PABM Advisory Committee will conduct a proper evaluation of the applicant's existing level of study and determine the appropriate point of entry into the Diploma programme, and the specific course units required to be completed in order to satisfy the full Diploma requirements.
